Akhtar Colony

Akhtar Colony (Urdu: اختر کالونی) is one of the neighbourhoods of Jamshed Town in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan.[1]

There are several ethnic groups in Akhtar Colony including Muhajirs, Punjabis, Sindhis, Kashmiris, Seraikis, Pakhtuns, Balochis, Memons, Bohras, Ismailis, etc. Over 99% of the population is Muslim. The population of Jamshed Town is estimated to be nearly one million.

In Akhtar Colony, 5 Sectors namely A,B,C,D,E, 17 Mosques, 11 Churches, 15 Private Schools, 11 Government Offices, 1 Public Library, 10 Private Clinics, 2 Hospitals, 5 Government Schools. One of the big advantage of Akhtar Colony peoples have that, the Big Hospital of Karachi i.e. Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre is very near of about 15 minutes drive and also 15 minutes drive to Karachi Cantt. Station and 25 minutes drive to Karachi Airport. One of the main road of Karachi is Korangi Road and Akhtar Colony is touching Korangi Road. The Neighbor localities are Azam Basti, Kashmir Colony, Junejo Town, Defence Phase 1 & Phase 2, Defence View. Sea View is nearly 10 minutes drive from Akhtar Colony.

The literacy rate of Akhtar Colony is very low for past few year, but now yearly literacy rate is increased rapidly. Doctors, Engineers, Bank Employees, Graduates in Different Fields and many other peoples with different fields are living in Akhtar Colony. The main problem is sewerage problem. The other problem is parking of vehicles, because in Akhtar Colony there are no bungalows, there are flats with no parking facility i.e. the vehicles are parked in the street that will create problem to cross for other vehicle when already some vehicles are parked. There are no play ground and no parks.

The people of Akhtar Colony are facing acute water shortage due to illegal connections and have to rely on tanker supply most of the time. Most of the streets are not paved/carpeted for long. Overall administrative negligence is evident both by KW&SB and KBCA.
